Coil Pot Session

During the two hour session you will learn how to make a pottery item (bowl, vase, jug, mug) from scratch using the coil building technique. This technique has been used for thousands of years and is the process of making a shaped vessel by adding coils of wet clay on top of each other and smoothing them together to create a bond.

Your finished master-pieces will need to be slowly dried until completely dry. They will then be kiln fired to 1000 degrees celcius.

As soon as they are cool enough to remove from the kiln they are then ready for you to collect, or you can arrange for a second two hour session costing £20 per person. We have a large selection of glazes ready for you to come and paint your masterpieces.

If you choose the second session, the pots are then fired for a second time to 1260 degrees celcius. Once cool enough the pots are carefully removed from the kiln.
The glazed pots are then wrapped and ready for collection. This entire process usually takes around three weeks but does vary depending on demand of the kiln. One kiln firing takes over 24 hours to complete!

Figure Making Session

The figure making session is alot of fun. Charlotte has been teaching this class for 12 years now. Inspired by a love of Tim Burton styling, these figures have a definite Burton-esque feel to them when they have been finished with the special black glaze. It gives the maker a real control over the decoration process as where marks and patterns are scraped in are highlighted with the glaze application.

You are guided all the way through the process and when you have created your base figure you can then get really creative with hairstyles, clothes and any other accessories that you feel your clay Morph or Morphette really can’t do without.

After you have completed the session the pieces will be dried over a week or so to ensure no water content is remaining and then fired. Charlotte will then coat all the pieces in a specially developed black glaze and wipe back to bring out the details. The figures are then re-fired to 1160 degrees and can then be collected and taken to their forever home.

Please contact Charlotte to book either of these classes.
