The Hand-Building Bit

The figure making session is alot of fun. Charlotte has been teaching this class for 12 years now. Inspired by a love of Tim Burton styling, these figures have a definite Burton-esque feel to them when they have been finished with the special black glaze. It gives the maker a real control over the decoration process as where marks and patterns are scraped in are highlighted with the glaze application.
You are guided all the way through the process and when you have created your base figure you can then get really creative with hairstyles, clothes and any other accessories that you feel you clay Morph or Morphette really cant do without.

After you have completed the session the pieces will be dried over a week or so to ensure no water content is remaining and then fired. Charlotte will then coat all the pieces in a specially developed black glaze and wipe back to bring out the details. The figures are then re-fired to 1160 degrees and can then be collected and taken to their forever home.

The Throwing Bit

Having a go on the potter's wheel is on many a 'Bucket List' and for some it's not pottery without a good old throw-down.

During the session, about half way through, Charlotte will demonstrate how to throw a pot and then guide each person through the process, so that you will have made a small and hopefully, perfectly formed bowl.

The bowl is then taken off the wheel and is left to dry overnight so that it can be turned (the process of removing excess clay from the base by putting it back on the wheel upside down and removing clay with turning tools) and stamped with your names.

These pots are then dried and fired.

If you wanted to, you can book another session to glaze the thrown bowls at an extra cost. You get another two hour session at one of the group pottery classes and it is £20 to glaze in as many colours as you see fit.

The glazing sessions are usually run on a Saturday morning but can sometimes be done at an evening class, space permitting.
