Charlotte and The Studio
I've been working as a professional potter since 2007. I graduated that same year from De Montfort University with a First Class Honors Degree in Ceramics and Glass but my journey into the world of pottery started way back in 1999.
Shortly after the birth of my son, I enrolled on a pottery evening class at the local Arts Centre in a town far, far away. And yes, for the first few weeks my coils were wobbly and flat too, but from the word go I was smitten. In fact I never stopped.
Pottery is a magical journey. A journey that requires persiverance and patience. It allows you to slow down, be in the moment and connect with yourself, as you learn to manipulate the clay. It is a lesson in delayed gratification and the moment you take your first creation home is something to cherish forever.
I still love making my own pieces but the delight that I get from opening a kiln packed with students works is a very special thing indeed. With pottery, you never quite know how things are going to turn out so the element of surprise is always around the corner.
Pottery is like a narrowboat journey, meandering and slow, calming and thoughtful... with the occassional annoying lock to get your head round. So, if you've had enough of the fast lane you know where to come.
