Coil Pot Plus Pottery Wheel
2 Hour Session for two people, 2 hour 15 minute session for 3+ people
Available most weekend and weekday daytimes and Friday evenings
Coil Pot Session
During the two hour session you will learn how to make a pottery item (bowl, vase, jug, mug) from scratch using the coil building technique. This technique has been used for thousands of years and is the process of making a shaped vessel by adding coils of wet clay on top of each other and smoothing them together to create a bond.
Your finished master-pieces will need to be slowly dried until completely dry. They will then be kiln fired to 1000 degrees celcius.
Having a go on the potter's wheel is on many a 'Bucket List' and for some, it's just not pottery without a good old throw-down.
During the session, about half way through, Charlotte will demonstrate how to throw a pot and then guide each person through the process so that you will have made a small and hopefully, perfectly formed bowl.
The bowl is then taken off the wheel and is left to dry overnight so that it can be turned (the process of removing excess clay from the base by putting it back on the wheel upside down and removing clay with turning tools) and stamped with your name.
As soon as they are cool enough to remove from the kiln they are then ready for you to collect, or you can arrange for a second two hour session costing £30 per person. We have a large selection of glazes ready for you to come and paint your masterpieces.
If you choose the second session, the pots are then fired for a second time to 1260 degrees celcius. Once cool enough the pots are carefully removed from the kiln.
The glazed pots are then wrapped and ready for collection. This entire process usually takes around three weeks but does vary depending on demand of the kiln. One kiln firing takes over 24 hours to complete!
